IF YOU WANT ME

This project originated in early autumn 2022, when three artists and a curator engaged in an extended online conversation. Using the curatorial initiative "Make a Friend" as a starting point, they attempted to sustain their dialogue through artistic creation, despite being located in three distant parts of the world.

Each rule and experiment in this process slightly distorts everyday occurrences, transforming them into instructions, glances, and rounds of collage. This approach allows the latent possibilities within these objects and relationships to emerge. The online dialogue and artistic creation will continue indefinitely, with no predetermined end date. Throughout the exhibition, works will be continuously updated and displayed. Due to cross-border transportation and customs clearance limitations, some physical works are still in transit—please stay tuned.

This exhibition is part of an ongoing project in which artists Zhu Lijin and Ku Cheng-Yang explore the subject and intersubjective relationships within friendship through a series of transregional artistic practices. Making friends serves as the driving force of the project, utilizing newly defined linguistic media and organizational structures to deconstruct and reexamine the notions of I, you, others, and the world. Inspired by J.L. Moreno’s visual metaphor—"I will see you through your eyes", this collaborative creation process continuously expands and reconfigures the texture of subjects and their interrelations.

Within the constraints of geographical distance and time differences, the artists engage in a game that is both serious and free-spirited. This process serves as an opportunity for the two sculpturally trained artists to experiment across various media. The limitations of online communication disrupt physical interaction, fully mediating bodily presence. While the social instincts of embodied intersubjectivity may be altered or even depleted, they simultaneously give rise to new bodily experiences through technological mediation. Emmanuel Levinas' ethical philosophy—"the face of the other"—undergoes transformation in this transregional process, manifesting as spontaneous rules, unknown desires, and images awaiting response.

"If You Want Me" is an initiation, a promise, a speculation, a gift, a misinterpretation, and a transfer of wishes. Between two subjects, making a friend is less of a goal and more of a point of departure—an act of creating something out of nothing and exploring new possibilities. In this transregional friendship experiment, situated within the artistic context of blending reality and fiction, the neighbor in the digital realm becomes possible—one who unconditionally adheres to and co-creates rules, compelled to respond. The enactment of fictional experimental relationships in everyday life serves as a moment of vigilance, like a night watch calling for renewed awareness.

本次項目緣起於2022年初秋之際，三位藝術家、策展人展開了一次漫長網聊，以游策計劃“交個朋友”為契機，嘗試在 三個遠隔重洋的地方，以創作的方式將聊天持續下去。

 每一次的規則和實驗都是在日常中讓那些常常發生的事情稍稍變形，變成一個指令、一束目光、一回合的拼貼，讓這些事 物和關係中內在的可能性得以浮現。本次網絡對話創作將持續進行，結束時間未知，在展覽期間也將陸續更新展示作品， 由於跨地運輸和清關限制，一些實體創作仍在路途當中，敬請盡情期待。

本次展覽來自於一個持續進行中的項目，兩位藝術家朱麗瑾、顧承洋圍繞探索“友誼”中的主體和主體間關係展開一系列 跨地藝術創作實踐。“交友”是整體項目的動力原點，通過設定新的“語言”媒介和組織方式，一定程度上解構、重新辨 認“我”、“你”、“他人”、“世界”， 如一個視覺隱喻“我將以你的眼注視你”（J.L Moreno），在共同創作的過 程中不斷鋪展和重摹主體和主體間的紋理。

 在跨地和時差的限制中展開嚴肅而自由的遊戲，以此為契機，兩位專業出身於雕塑的藝術家跨越到多種媒介展開新的嘗 試，線上溝通所產生的非肉身的限制，讓肉身交流被徹底地中介，主體間肉身的社會本能被轉化，或許被損耗著，但也在 技術中介中形成新的肉身經驗。列維納斯的倫理學中心——“他人的臉”，在跨地過程中，將變形為這些無中生有的規 則、未知的欲求、亟待回應的圖像。 

“如果你想讓我”是一個起念、承諾、猜測、禮物、誤讀、願望轉移……在兩個主體之間，“交個朋友”與其說是目標， 不如視作為了無中生有和探知更多可能性的原點。在此次異地的交友實驗中，基於現實和虛構融合的藝術創作的語境，互 聯網中的“鄰人”成為可能，即無條件地持守共同製造的規則，不得不“回應”。在日常中執行虛構的實驗性關係，恰好 是一個再喚起警覺的守夜時刻。
